About Alara

Alara began with two people, a love of freedom and a shared belief that life should be filled with beautiful experiences.

We wanted to travel, to discover, to meet the people behind the things we loved and to create something of our own along the way.

What began as an idea became a way of life — a small business built around a love of craftsmanship, independent makers, faraway places and the simple pleasure of finding something unexpected.

But we also wanted Alara to have a purpose.

As we travelled, we became increasingly drawn to traditional crafts and the people who have kept them alive, often passing their skills from one generation to the next. We saw that these crafts are about far more than the objects themselves. They carry the history, identity and character of the communities that create them.

We wanted to help keep those traditions alive by bringing the work of small artisans to a wider audience — supporting the makers behind the pieces and, in our own small way, helping the communities and livelihoods that depend upon these skills to continue.

We wanted Alara to create a bridge between worlds: between the places we travelled and the people at home; between traditional artisans and new customers; and between beautiful objects and the stories behind them.

And so, slowly and organically, Alara grew.

A lifestyle shaped by curiosity, connection, craftsmanship and freedom, born from a love of discovering beautiful things and the people and traditions behind them.
