Fayoum is a famous oasis located south of Cairo in the vicinity of the Nile. This region has always been the greenest and most fertile in the country and pottery has been a tradition there for thousands of years. Fayoum pottery in Egypt has a rich history, with traditions rooted in the Pharaonic era and continuing to thrive in modern villages like Tunis and al- Nazla.
The abundance of clay and palm trees in the region facilitated the development of pottery and basketry, with pottery used for various purposes such as storing food and water. Today the potters still use the techniques passed down by their ancestors to create beautiful glazed earthenware unlike any other. Decorated with hand painted designs inspired by their surroundings, such as plants, animals, and landscapes. These creations carry the story of Fayoum not just into the world but also into history, expressing the identity of the potters and the whole region..representing all that is both new and old.
